Sydney’s eastern suburbs welcome first school to go solar, with plenty more to come

Kincoppal-Rose Bay is the first school in Sydney’s eastern suburbs to install solar panels in a council-led initiative to reduce the area’s carbon footprint.

Solar My School by Randwick, Waverley and Woollahra councils was launched 18 months ago.

So far 27 schools, both public, independent and a few childcare centres, have signed up to the program.

Solar panels for Kincoppal’s Maureen Tudehope Centre fitness facility cost $127,000, of which $25,000 was paid for via a grant from the New South Wales Government.

The panels are expected to slash 30 per cent off the building’s yearly energy bills by generating 149,000 kilowatt hours of electricity each year.
