Bondi Public goes solar!

Inspired and spurred on by a group of Year 6 students last year, Bondi Public School has installed a large solar power system with the help of the Solar my School program.

The school received funding from the NSW Community Building Partnerships Grants, as well as the NSW Department of Education to help finance the system. The Hon. Gabrielle Upton, attended the launch event on 15th October at the school.

It’s one of the largest solar power systems on a  primary school in the Eastern Suburbs, producing clean green energy to power our learning facilities.

The system will help:

  • Cut 20% off our annual energy bill
  • Produce clean green energy equal to powering 150 school computers each year
  • Avoid 27 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions – like taking 9 cars off the road each year
  • Reach over 500 students with a real life lesson on local climate change solutions

“This initiative was driven by an extremely proactive and environmentally aware group of Year 6 students in 2017. Our planet will be in good hands if tomorrow’s leaders are of this calibre,” said Principal Michael Jones: “
